Timothy S. Wheeland
mwb Timothy S. Wheeland (born September 4, 1967) is a past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ohio, serving from 2021-2022.
Early Life and Education
A native of central Ohio, he has resided in the Columbus and Powell areas for most of his life. Wheeland graduated from Northland High School in 1985 and went on to study at The Ohio State University and Franklin University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.[1]
Professional Career
Upon graduating high school, Wheeland sought employment to support his college education. Starting at the age of 17, he began working at CompuServe Incorporated, which marked the beginning of a long and successful career. Over thirty-seven years later, Wheeland now manages the membership operations of not only CompuServe, but also AOL, Yahoo, and Netscape. His roles have included business management, membership management, project/product management, people management, and technology innovation/integration. His expertise in membership management and subscriptions has enabled him to provide invaluable insights into member acquisition, retention, and losses within the fraternity.[1]
Masonic Career
A casual conversation about Masons during a golf game with his father-in-law, Clyde “Joe” Bourne, sparked Wheeland's journey in Freemasonry. Initiated an Entered Apprentice, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on April 9th, 2005 during a statewide Grand Master’s Class event, Wheeland became a beloved member of University Lodge No. 631. His fellow members, warm and welcoming, encouraged him to participate in various Lodge functions and guided him through learning the proficiencies, rituals, lectures, charges, and other aspects of Masonic life.[1]
Wheeland soon found himself ascending through the Lodge’s officer chairs, culminating in his election as Worshipful Master of University Lodge in 2011. After serving as Worshipful Master, he served as an officer in the 14th Masonic District Association and was appointed as Deputy Grand Master in 2013. A year later, in 2014, Wheeland was appointed to the Grand Lodge of Ohio as Junior Grand Deacon by Steven E. Cokonougher, Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.
Following his appointment as Junior Grand Deacon, Wheeland served as Senior Grand Deacon (2015), Grand Marshal (2016), Grand Orator (2017), and was elected Junior Grand Warden in Sandusky (2018), Senior Grand Warden in Marietta (2019), and Deputy Grand Master in Wilmington (2020). In 2021, Wheeland was elected to serve as Grand Master for the state of Ohio on October 15th, 2021.
Beyond his service in the Grand Lodge, Wheeland also served as the Thrice Potent Master of the Enoch Lodge of Perfection of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus 2020-2021, and received the 33rd Degree in Cleveland, Ohio on August 31st, 2021. He is a member of various Masonic bodies, including Community Chapter No. 226, R.A.M.; West Gate Council No. 129, R&SM; Columbus Commandery No. 69, Knights Templar; Aladdin Shrine; Achbar Grotto; St. Jerome Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine; Andrew J. White Jr. Council No. 245, A.M.D.; and the Widows Sons, Craftsman Chapter. In September 2019, Wheeland received the DeMolay Legion of Honor.
