mwb Ross A. Allen PGC IGH is the current Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Colorado and Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Colorado.[1]

Biography

Born in September 1951, Ross A. Allen hails from a lineage of historic sheep ranchers in Hotchkiss and the North Fork Valley, Colorado. Raised by Paul and Erma Jean Allen, his childhood was steeped in the ranching lifestyle. He is a 1969 graduate of Hotchkiss High School and attended Fort Lewis College for three years.

On July 14, 1973, Allen married Elizabeth Ann Chapman, fulfilling his aspirations of becoming a sheep rancher and starting a family with the woman he admired. The couple has two sons, Brother John D. Allen and Worshipful Brother Gregory M. Allen, both married with two children each and living in Hotchkiss.

Masonic Career

Allen was initiated into Freemasonry on February 1, 1977, at Mount Lamborn Lodge No. 102, by his father-in-law, Worshipful Brother and Sir Knight Donald L. Chapman. In 1983, he served as Worshipful Master of Mount Lamborn Lodge, and he has been the Lodge's Secretary since 1984. He became a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, SJ, in Grand Junction in 1979 and was crowned a 33º Inspector General Honorary in 2001. Allen served as the head of all four bodies of the Scottish Rite in Grand Junction.[1]

Allen was knighted a Sir Knight by Past Grand Commander A. Lynn Sanburg in 1984, served as Eminent Commander of Delta Commandery No. 34, Knights Templar in 1993, and was appointed to the Grand Commandery line by then Grand Commander, T. Thomas McKelvie, in 1994. He was installed as Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Colorado on September 7, 2002. Subsequently, he served the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States of America on various committees between 2006 and 2015.[1]

In addition to his other Masonic affiliations, Allen is a member of Delta Chapter No. 38, R.A.M., Telluride Council No. 10, R&SM, Pikes Peak Priory No. 21, KYCH, Four Corners York Rite College No. 171, Black Canyon Council No. 318, A.M.D., the Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests, Kincora Council No. 8, Knight Masons, the Royal Order of Scotland, and the Mount of the Holy Cross Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine.[1]

Grand Master Dexter D. Koontz appointed Allen as Grand Marshall in the progressive line of Grand Lodge in 2015. Allen was later elected and installed to serve as Grand Master for the year 2023.
